Nainital, being one of the popular Hill station in the state of Uttarakhand was always in our bucket-list. Our Nainital trip got delayed once due to monsoon. Beautiful view of its mystic Kumaon valley of outer Himalayas and mango shaped lake, popularly known as Naina lake makes it the number one destination in North India. Somehow Nainital trip was pending because of our busy schedule and lack of appropriate budget. The peak season for visiting Nainital is from May to July and the tariffs during those time are increased by hotels, transportation, local shops etc to maximize their profit. So it wasn’t the perfect time for us to visit Nainital. We decided to visit Nainital in November, which is the pleasant time to visit this enthralling hill station.

So our first step to make Nainital trip in budget is to skip the peak season and visit it in November. I don’t know why people loves crowd, neither do I understand, how anyone can admire the serenity of mystic valley with so much hustle and bustle. November, being in budget was also the apt time  to visit for nature lover like me. After planning the time to visit, we had to plan for the three most important factor to make Nainital trip in budget and those were “transportation cost”, “Hotel cost”, “local sight seeing cost”. Below I have given the exact cost for each of these factors.

Transportation for Nainital trip

local transportation during nainital trip

Our bus

We booked seat for two in A.C Volvo (push-back seater) from Delhi to Nainital through International tourist center which charged us 700 + 700 (1400 INR for 2). We booked the same for our return journey and our total transportation cost for DELHI-NAINITAL-DELHI was 2800 INR. Train could have been cheaper but train is only available till Kathgodam station which is about 25 kilometers from Naininal and you have to hire local cab which would charge you higher than normal. This is the reason we opt for bus.

Total cost 2800 INR

We enjoying the view from Hotel

Nainital has no shortage of Hotels and resorts which fits budget of all. We decided to stay near snow view point, which is located at hill top. We booked View point resort as our place to stay for two days. This resort was both in our budget and  also provided an amazing view of Naina Lake, China peak and was near to snow view point, the important landmark of the city. The resort provided us with complimentary breakfast which was tasty. We also ordered dinner for 2 days and the total cost of fooding and lodging was 1500 INR

Total cost 1500 INR approx

Local Sightseeing in Nainital

Local sightseeing in nainital trip

Visit to high altitude zoo

There are many important landmark in Nainital, which includes Mall Road, Naina Devi temple, Tibetan market, Himalayan botanical garden, High altitude zoo, Lover’s point/ suicide point, Eco cave garden, Naina lake, Himalaya Darshan, Sariatal etc. We hired a local cab to cover all these important landmark and it charged us 700 INR after some bargain. The sightseeing package cost in peak season is 2500 INR approx, so 700 INR was fair enough.

Total cost 700 INR

Other charges in Nainital trip

Some other charges like entry to Eco-cave garden, Shikara ride, Lunch for 2 days that we had near Himalayan Botanical garden was about 500 INR.

Total charge 500 INR

This is how we completed our Nainital trip within 5500 INR without compromising with anything. Rather we choose to be selective with hotel location, time of visit. Have you been to Nainital ? How much did you spend? Let me know in comments.
