Hills were always at the core of our heart for its grandeur and mysterious beauty. One Friday evening me & Saurabh decided to visit Dalhousie. Yes, it was not a planned trip yet one of our most memorable trip. One can reach Dalhousie by road, by air or by train. By air you have to board your flight for Gaggal airport, which is approximately 11 kms away from Dalhousie. Pathankot is the nearest railway station for Dalhousie, which is at a distance of 80 kms. By road Dalhousie is well connected from all major cities. By Volvo it took 7 hours from Delhi to reach Dalhousie. After reaching Dalhousie its beautiful snow capped peaks will amaze you. The climate of Dalhousie is so enthralling which makes this place a perfect tourist destination. You can see beautiful architecture of Victorians style mansions while walking through the lanes of Dalhousie.

Best time to visit Dalhousie

Dalhousie tourism is open in all the season, and every season has something to offer to you. It depends on what you are expecting from Dalhousie. If you want to go for trekking, then the month of March to June is apt for you, because the weather is sunny and bright, if you want to walk in mild shower and enjoy the foggy evening, then June to September will fit you, and if you want to play in snow, then pack your bag in December to February.

The “Mini Switzerland of India” Khajjiar is a small and ecstatic hill town. This place also called as Gulmarg of Himachal-Pradesh. Khajjiar is covered with long Deodar and pine trees, which from the top of the hill look like a beautiful green carpet. The spot is blessed with beautiful Khajjiar lake, which is a pear shaped lake. We had a beautiful experience of boating in this lake. If you are here with your better half or with family, spend some beautiful moment doing boating in this lake. If you are an adventure lover than horse riding will attract you the most. At a very reasonable price you can enjoy the nature’s beauty. Walking on the hilly road of Khajjiar will rejuvenate you. If you are lucky, you may encounter wild animals like bear, leopard, shy ghoral, Himalayan squirrel, langur, barking deer, musk deer etc. This place is perfect for wildlife lovers. Kalatop is ideal for Trekking and Hiking. Oak forest and deodar trees contributes to enhance the beauty of this place. The mesmerizing beauty of flowing water of Ravi river and snow capped peaks is enough to make you spellbound.

Dainkund Peak

Dainkund peak is the highest peak of Dalhousie, at an altitude of 2155 meters. The gentle breeze passing through the deodar trees creates a musical effect, for this reason the peak is famous as singing hill. The magnificent view of the valley from the top of Dainkund peak makes this place special. The hilltop is occupied by the Indian Air Force. If you manage to take permit from the Indian Air Force authority, only then you can reach the extreme top. We were lucky enough to get permission, as my uncle is serving for Indian Air Force. After reaching the top it feels like you are in heaven. The famous Pholani Devi temple is just few meters away from the Air base. So don’t be disappointed if you don’t get the permission to the top. You can witness the beauty of the Pholan Devi Temple premises. This peak is covered with beautiful wild flowers, which looks like a mini valley of flowers.

Panch pula is approximately 3 kms from Dalhousie. Panch Pula got its name, because of five bridges here. In hindi “Panch” means five and “Pula” means bridge. The beauty of this places makes it a beautiful spot for picnic. This a perfect place to visit with family and friends. You can enjoy the serenity of waterfalls and streams. Satdhara fall is famous waterfall of this place. Boating is the best option to spend some quality time with your loved ones. Ideal place to visit for a short while. There is nothing much to do here, off course the beauty of this place in mesmerizing, so when you are planning to visit Dalhousie, this place should be included in the list of places to visit in Dalhousie.

Ganji Pahari

Ganji pahari is situated in the Barkota hills, which is 5 kms away from Dalhousie. The name of the place is quite interesting. There is no vegetation found at the top of the hill, which looks like a bald head. Ganji pahari is actually a literal translation of the word bald hill. It will take an hour to reach this place from Dalhousie. Ganji Pahari is also a good location for picnic. It is one of the important nature walk in Dalhousie. A walk to ganji Pahari with family and friends inhaling fresh air and watching the serene beauty of the valley is worthwhile.

Chamera Lake

Chamera Lake is an artificial lake located in the valley of Dalhousie. The lake is approximately 25 kms away from Dalhousie. This place is an important tourist point. The lake is formed by Chamera Dam and is actually a water reservoir. Boating and fishing is main attraction of this place. Himachal Pradesh State government is promoting water sports at this place. The water sports sub center has lots of water sports. People of all ages can enjoy this place. Winter is the best time to visit this place. The beauty of the lake is spectacular in winters.

Mall Road

Mall road is center point of Dalhousie. If you are in mood to buy something for yourself and for your loved ones, mall road is the right place. Try Tibetan food at reasonable price. Spend some time walking in lanes of mall road. You may buy some handmade items from this place. This is a perfect place for shopaholic’s.
