Ranikhet is a small hill station located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Though it is not among the popular Hill stations in India, but still it holds, considerable importance in North India Tourist Places. Ranikhet was once proposed as summer headquarter during British Raj, but for some reason, the officials selected Shimla. Ranikhet, which means The Queen’s Meadow, got its name from a local story, it is believed that this is the place where Queen Padmini chose to stay, after being wooed by King Sudhardev, though there is no evidence behind the claims. Ranikhet is set in the foothills of Himalayas at an altitude of 1869 meters above sea level. The temperature remains pleasant throughout the year and it receives snowfall during December to February. The best time to visit this beautiful hill station is from March to October. You may visit here even during your trip to Nainital, which is regarded as one of the best Hill Station of India and is located few kilometers away from Ranikhet. Jhula Devi Temple
Jhula Devi Temple is approximately 700 years old temple devoted to Goddess Durga, however, the present structure was finished in 1935. The landmark is near about 6 kilometers from Ranikhet and takes few minutes to reach there. You may encounter wildlife on your way to this temple.
Near Jhula Devi Temple, there is another temple devoted to Lord Ram. It is located at the hill top. A monastery is set over here, where Vedic lessons and mathematics are taught. Those who are interested in Vedic lessons should definitely visit Ram Mandir, which is about 7 kilometers from the main Ranikhet city.
Golf Course in Kalika is located 5 kilometers from Ranikhet city, and it takes few minutes to reach there. It is regarded as one of the Asia’s highest Golf course. The green golf field, set at high altitude appears amazing. It is one of the major attractions for people visiting here. Haidakhan temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and is about four kilometers from Ranikhet. You can see mesmerizing beauty of the Himalayas from this Temple. Spending time here is both relaxing and refreshing.
